Failure in one application (e.g., database) affects all the other applications (e.g., database, middleware) involved in the service. Multi-tier architectures provide scalability, but they also pose challenges. End-to-end service involves multiple, dependent applications and network elements, making it difficult for you to identify the true culprit. The solution features a unique single agent approach that is able to monitor over 85+ different applications. For each application, the monitoring includes the underlying operating system, plus multi-tier models in a manner similar to the Open Software Initiative (OSI) model. The layered approach enables fast and easy provisioning using pre-defined models for nearly 90 common applications and network devices. These allow for clear demarcation of problem areas, so the right experts can be called for problem solving and so that the outage may be remedied and the service may be restored.

The agent includes the metrics, thresholds and reporting built-in for all of the supported applications. Typically, 200-300 metrics are collected from each application to validate the performance and availability of each application. This allows implementations to proceed quickly and successfully, within hours instead of days. Alarms and alerts may be sent to administrators through email or SMS messages to phones and pagers. If a trouble ticket tracking system is on-site, the eG solution may be configured to write a trouble ticket and send it to the system. As business needs change, the agents may be relocated to other new servers, with different operating systems and applications, with no need to obtain more agents.
